SMJassi Welfare Society: Empowering Women and Offering Free Eye Care
On August 19, 2019, Gurdev Ram Jassi founded the SMJassi Welfare Society in memory of his grandparents, Munshi and Santie Jassi. This charity focuses on uplifting the underprivileged, particularly through skill development and healthcare initiatives.
Empowering Women
The society offers stitching and beautician courses to underprivileged women, aiming to help them become financially independent. In 2019, 45 women enrolled in these four-month courses, with 35 completing them successfully. The stitching course was taught by Veena Juneja, and the beautician course by Mona, both of whom played key roles in transforming these women’s lives. Gurdev Ram Jassi, residing in London, flew to India to honor and motivate the participants.
Free Eye Care
SMJassi Welfare Society also organizes free eye check-up camps. In 2019, they examined 50 individuals: 8 received operations, 22 were given glasses, and the rest received medication and precautions. This initiative was supported by Dr. Jagdeep Singh, ensuring high-quality care for all patients.
Smooth Operations
Mrs. Humani Gakahar oversees the society’s operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Her dedication is vital to the success of the society’s initiatives.
The SMJassi Welfare Society continues to honor Munshi and Santie Jassi’s memory by empowering individuals and improving their quality of life.
